Description:
The purpose of MYP is to provide mentoring services to graduate students as well as clinical fellows (CF) in speech-language pathology/audiology via web-based meetings, webinars and face-to-face roundtable meetings at convention.
Goal:
To nurture graduate students and entry-level professionals by cultivating the culture of mentoring.
Objectives:
1. For up to two mentees (i.e. students or early career professionals in their CF year) to receive clinical or research support from professional mentors each spring.
2. For the mentees to demonstrate life-long learning by participating in research projects that address and inform clinical practice.
3. To improve the mentees’ understanding of the national, legislative, clinical and research initiatives in advancing our profession.
4. To increase the mentees’ professional networks with experts via web communications and face-to-face meetings at the MSHA Convention.
5. To increase the mentees’ participation in state/national leadership positions.
Nomination Process:
Each university in Missouri with an on-ground Speech-Language Pathology and/or Audiology program invites university students and/or young professionals in their Clinic Fellowship Year (CFY) to apply for the Mentoring Young Professionals Program.
MYP Award (Mentee):
• Mentor/Mentee Pairing
• MSHA Convention Registration: Comped by MSHA
• Two-night hotel stay: MSH-Foundation
• Mentor/Mentee meetings: Friday Social and Saturday Luncheon
• Certificate of Participation
Criteria:
The nominees must be MSHA members and either in their Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY) or enrolled in an on-ground undergraduate or graduate program at an accredited college or university studying speech-language-hearing sciences in the state of Missouri to participate.
Selection Process:
Applications are reviewed and participants are randomly selected by a non-biased committee of volunteers who serve as application reviewers and/or mentors for the MSLP program.
